The Society of Urban and Rural Empowerment (SURE) celebrated the coming of the Behdieñkhlam festival along with the staff and the members of the NGO. The celebration was held yesterday at the HK Singh School in Jowai.
Rev HH Mohrmen, secretary of SURE, said that the NGO has staff from a variety of faiths and the organisation makes sure to celebrate their different festivals.
K Pakma, SURE president, said that one of the basic principles of the Unitarian Church, which sponsors the NGO, is respect for all religions.
Present on the occasion was Kamnipaia Challam, member of Sein Raij Jowai, who addressed the staff and explained about Behdieñkhlam. He explained in detail the celebration and, particularly, the four days and three nights of the festival but, at the same time, he reminded the gathering that the preparation for the festival starts in March each year.
Later, Challam also offered the ‘ka ngooh ka dem’ prayer.
