The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya, in joint operations with state police, seized more than 42 tonnes of sugar along the international border in South Garo Hills.
The sugar was intercepted before it could be smuggled over into Bangladesh on April 28.
Acting on specific information, BSF personnel from the 200 Battalion in collaboration with Meghalaya police launched a joint operation, which led to the seizure of 42,300 kgs of sugar worth more than Rs 16 lakh from an abandoned house located in close proximity to the international border.
The seized Sugar bags were handed over to the Rongra police station for further action.
In another operation, BSF troops of the 193 Battalion seized saris worth more than Rs 3 lakh, while being smuggled to Bangladesh from the international border of East Khasi hills district.
