Meghalaya won four medals at the 34th East Zone Athletics Championship, which concluded today in Kolkata.
In all, the athletes from the Meghalaya Athletics Association (MAA) won two silver and two bronze medals. This was, however, down on the five medals won last year in Patna, which included one gold.
Meghalaya had sent 37 athletes and two officials to the October 17-19 championship this year.
Rukini RT Dkhar took silver in the U-14 girls’ 600m race with a new personal best timing of 1 minute, 42.80 seconds.
The other three Meghalaya medals came in the high jump.
Sibilda Maring set a new personal best, clearing 1.45m to take silver in the U-16 girls’ category.
Anrisha Klein cleared 1.50m (also a new personal best) in the U-18 girls’ category, while Pringchang N Sangma cleared 1.80m in the U-20 men’s event. Both athletes bagged bronze medals for their efforts.
The MAA congratulated the medallists, coach Pleasantly Synnah and physio Maradona Khongsni, while also thanking the state government for its support and financial assistance.
