The Meghalaya Indigenous Tribal Constitutional Right Movement (MITCRM) comprising of the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynñiewtrep (SNSBH), the KWADA, the North East Student Organisation (NESO), the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), the Federation of Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), the Seng Longkmie, and leaders from the Garo Hills today took resolutions on the crisis faced by North Eastern Hill University (NEHU).
Speaking to media persons here, SNSBH leader Rapiong Lang Blah said that the students have become the scapegoats on behalf of what NEHU vice chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla has done.
“We have taken a stand and passed three resolutions today in our meeting. The first is that we stand in full solidarity with the students of NEHU and wholeheartedly support their demands for accountability and transparency in the university. We will also formally address the President of India who serves as the Visitor of NEHU and bring urgent attention to the grievances and concerns raised by the students and faculty as well,” he said.
Blah further said that recognising the gravity of the NEHU crisis and the unyielding stance of the vice chancellor, the movement has resolved to declare Prof. Shukla, as ‘persona non grata’ (a person who is not acceptable to the tribals of Meghalaya).
“This decision reflects our commitment to safeguarding the interests of Meghalaya educational institutions and upholding the rights and dignity of our academic community,” Blah added.
