World Homoeopathy Day was observed in various parts of Meghalaya today.
The North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy (NEIAH) organised a ‘March for Homoeopathy’ to commemorate the day in Shillong, while health authorities organised an event in Jowai.
The march was attended by nearly 200 students and staff of NEIAH and was flagged off by the Deputy Director of the institution, A Wanshai Shynret. The march began at IGP Point and progressed through Kyndailad, Polo and ended at the Shillong Golf Club. The celebration’s theme this year is ‘Education, Teaching and Research’. NEIAH also organised a seminar, quiz, poster making competition and other academic activities on its campus on the occasion.
World Homoeopathy Day is celebrated every April 10 to mark the birthday of Samuel Hahnemann, who founded the practice.
In Jowai, the theme of the celebration was ‘Joy of Homoeopathy Day’. Speakers, including the West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner and District Medical and Health Officer, waxed lyrical in their praise of homoeopathy and its supposed virtues and cost-effectiveness.
As part of the annual celebration, the AYUSH Department conducted a week-long programme that included a school health camp and a free medical camp.
