Senior IAS officer Rebecca Vanessa Suchiang was today appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Meghalaya.
She is the first Khasi woman to hold the top post in the State’s bureaucracy.
Suchiang will take over the post tomorrow when incumbent Chief Secretary M S Rao retires.
On her assumption of office, Suchiang will also function as State Vigilance Commissioner.
An IAS officer of 1989 batch of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, Suchiang was so far the Additional Chief Secretary in charge of Finance, Home, Political and Personnel departments.
Recently, she was appointed as Chairman and Managing Director of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL).
Meanwhile, M S Rao who will retire from service tomorrow has been appointed as Chief Commissioner of the State Public Service Delivery Commission.
The notification regarding his appointment was issued today evening.
The State Public Service Delivery Commission is a body which provides for time-bound services to the citizens. The commission was created under the Public Service Delivery Act, 2020.
Under the Public Service Delivery Act, 2020, government servants are liable to pay a penalty and compensation of Rs 5,000 up to Rs 20,000 if they fail to provide time bound services to the citizens. The penalty will be deducted from the salary of such erring government servants.
