Shillong, Jun 7: The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has still yet to submit any names to the party high command in New Delhi for the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election.
A source today informed that nine applications have been received but no candidate has been finalised. The Meghalaya BJP is proposing to put forward three names to the central leadership.
Four big players have already named their candidates, though the exact date of the by-election has not been intimated by the Election Commission.
The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has nominated Batskhem Myrboh as its choice to fill in the shoes of the late Ricky AJ Syngkon, whose death in February necessitated the by-election.
Like the VPP, The National People’s Party (NPP) has chosen an academic in the form of DR Lyngdoh Nonglait. The United Democratic Party (UDP) has also chosen a newbie politician in VGK Kynta, a lawyer. Only the Congress Party has so far chosen a seasoned politician in former MP Vincent Pala.
The BJP did not contest the 2024 Shillong Lok Sabha election, instead choosing to support the candidature of its ally, the NPP.
