St. Anthony’s College were awarded the first prize at the Open Western Acapella Choir competition and Choir Singing festival held at the Lariti International Centre for Performing Arts and Culture, Mawkasiang.
St. Edmund’s College and St. Mary’s College of Teachers Education were adjudged second and third winners respectively.
The competition was organised by the YMCA Shillong in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture and hosted by Shillong Public School.
Arts and Culture Minister Paul Lyngdoh and Principal Secretary Frederick Roy Kharkongor attended the programme as guests.
Speaking on the occasion, Lyngdoh appreciated the efforts of all the stakeholders to invest in the promotion of choir singing and the immense talent of the youth in the State.
He announced that the event should be an annual event to further the talents and skills of the youth.
Kharkongor emphasised on the effect of music on the mind, body and spirit of every individual.
The competition was judged by a panel of eminent personalities from the music fraternity consisting of Pauline Warjri, Rimame Lyndem, Toshan Nongbet and Gordon J Thabah.
