The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) has threatened to begin a stir if their pending salaries of over three months remain unpaid despite them being handed an order for the release of their salaries.
The teachers, prior to the GHADC elections had threatened to begin the stir for their salary. However assurances were provided by the government following which the protest was delayed. With the completion of voting to the GHADC completed, the teachers once again began their demand for the release of their salaries.
“We were provided with a sanction letter of the release of our two months salaries. We later found out that the money had not been disbursed to the districts despite the sanction. From the sanction it is very clear that the salary was supposed to have been paid before the closing of the financial year in March,” said the teachers.
The AGHSSASTA called the non-payment of salary despite the sanction as deprivation.
“We have not been paid since the beginning of the year and this has made our financial situation untenable. We have become debt ridden and have had to live on borrowings. In such circumstances it has become difficult for us to run our families and provide admissions for our children,” they added.
The AGHSSASTA asserted that it was their fundamental right to be paid for the services that they are rendering to society.
Aggrieved at the constant negligence shown towards them, the teachers have threatened to go on an agitation if their salaries are not cleared with immediate effect, the teachers would begin an agitation to seek the release of their salaries.
