The office of the District Medical & Health Officer, South West Khasi Hills District today launched the Special Immunisation Campaign for infants up to two years of age at the Aganwadi Centre in Mawten.
Deputy Commissioner, Tableland Lyngwa who attended the launch as the chief guest said that Measles, once a highly contagious disease was controlled through vaccines and hence vaccination is important to protect children from life threatening diseases. He urged people to stay away from superstitions that dissuade them from getting vaccinated.
He also advised pregnant mothers to go for regular Pre-natal checkups and to always have their delivery in health institutions in order to be safe in case of any complication that might arise out of child birth.
Medical Health Officer Dr W Narry said immunization is free in all public health centres. He advised parents to take PCV and RVV injections for their children in order to protect them from pneumonia and diarrhoea.
