Secretary of the Umsaw Nongkharai village, Ri Bhoi, today handed over a rescued Slow Loris to the Forest Department to be put back in its natural habitat.
According to Tony Shylla, the animal was found inside a parked truck last evening. He said he was informed by a group of drivers, who out of fear had approached him.
Shylla, along with some young people, immediately decided to go and inspect the animal and found the Slow Loris resting inside a truck.
Speaking to reporters after handing over the wild animal to the Forest Department, Shylla expressed his delight in helping the wild animal get back to its natural habitat while also stressing on the importance of conservation and protection of wildlife in the district, which is currently facing numerous incidents of forest fires.
Shylla said the increasing displacement of wild animals may result from rampant deforestation caused by unchecked burning of forests.
