Shillong, Oct 31: A grand musical tribute to celebrate the timeless legacy of legendary music composer Sachin Dev Burman will be held at U Soso Tham auditorium, here on November 9.
The second edition of ‘Remembering the Maestro – S.D. Burman, is being organised by the Byatikram Group, in association with The Times of India and Rabindranath Tagore Club, Laban
The much-awaited evening of melody and reminiscence will be attended by Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar, Shillong music icon Lou Majaw, Manisha Hazarika, eminent singer and sister-in-law of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika and host of other eminent personalities.
“This initiative is our humble tribute to the legendary SD Burman, whose music transcends generations and continues to inspire countless artists. He was one of the most renowned musical icons of the Northeast, standing tall alongside legendary gems such as Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, Jayanta Hazarika, Zubeen Garg, who have carried the legacy of music from Guwahati to Shillong and across the entire region,” Byatikram Group Patron-in-Chief Dr Saumen Bharatiya said at a press conference today.
He said the event aims to keep SD Burman’s spirit alive and remind everyone of the golden era of Indian music that shaped our nation’s cultural identity.
Bharatiya also announced that a special highlight of the event will be conferring the SD Burman Memorial Byatikram Lifetime Achievement Award 2025 to the eminent musician Rudy Wallang, one of India’s most respected blues-rock guitarists, vocalists, and composers.
Renowned for his deep-rooted musical sensibility and soulful artistry, Rudy’s illustrious career spans over four decades, during which he has collaborated with and shared stages alongside some of the most celebrated musicians across the globe.
In homage to the maestro’s unparalleled contribution to Indian music, the evening will also feature a series of soulful renditions of S.D. Burman’s evergreen compositions, performed by a stellar lineup of artists including Jayati Bhattacharjee, Chandrima Bhattacharjee, Binita Devi, Anaya Brahma, Urmimala Choudhury, Dr. Jayashree Devi and Indrani Dutta.
The event will also include a dance performance by Panchali Sarkar, adding a vibrant visual dimension to the musical tribute.
The whole event is dedicated to the legendary Zubeen Garg and is open to all, Bharatiya said.
