The Shillong Manipuri Students’ Union (SMSU) has demanded installation of a new government in Manipur to restore peace and normalcy in that state.
Expressing concern over the recent killings in Jiribam where six persons, including three women and three children were abducted and killed on November 12, union president Priyalini Rajkumari said such inhumane act is barbaric.
“We appeal to the law enforcement authorities of both centre and state governments to ensure prompt and effective investigations and stringent measures are undertaken and takes every possible means to book the culprits involved with rigorous punishment at the earliest and provide justice,” Rajkumari said.
Stating that the unfortunate situation clearly shows that the law and order in Manipur has completely failed the SMSU said, “The union demands a new confidence and constructive government in the state of Manipur and restores the normalcy and peace. The government of Manipur and the central government must truly define the responsibilities and concerns to firmly act in the best possible ways to ensure that the lives and property of the people of the state are safe and protected at any cost.”
