Editor,
A drive that should at most culminate within one hour and thirty minutes from Shillong towards Jowai, however thanks to no action and empty promises by the State PWD to repair this vital highway and a spurring ten billion dream, that is as well connected to a fast moving economic corridor now lies in abject chaos.
A truck overturned on September 21 morning leaving commuters and transporters stuck for close to more than six hours and it took longer for some control to happen. The highway patrol cars with their traffic cops were ‘invisible’ at critical junctions and the most pathetic attitude is of the state of affairs towards repairing the entire highway.
How can a State move forward when the highways are in a sorry state and basic regulation is absent. If critical infrastructure is not developed properly then everything would come to a standstill. Hope the State government authorities address this.
