The Khasi Department in collaboration with IQAC, Shillong College, began its two-day webinar on the theme “Ka Jaitbynriew Hynñiewtrep ha ka Jingiaid Lynti ba 50 Snem” today.
The webinar has been organised to commemorate 50 years of Meghalaya’s statehood.
Pyniaid Sing Syiem MLA was the chief guest at the inaugural function. In his address, Syiem started by reminding the gathering that a Khasi lives by the three codes – ‘Ka tip briew tip Blei, Ka tip kur tip man and Kamai ia ka hok’. He stressed that a Khasi should never forget or stray away from these three fundamental codes of life even in the midst of the progress and development in this contemporary globalised society.
Paying rich tributes to the stalwarts of the Hill State Movement, who had made immense sacrifices to see that their dream of a separate state come true he also praised the achievements of many who have earned fame and respect in the world in their own fields. Recalling some of these personalities, Captain WA Sangma, Prof GG Swell, James Lyngdoh to Skendrowell and Shillong Chamber Choir, he lauded how they have brought recognition not just to themselves but to the state.
He therefore called upon the entire community to unite and to strive towards a future of peace, prosperity and harmony.
