With the Assembly elections just one week away, the Department of Political Science at Shillong College today held a voter awareness programme to target first time and young voters belonging to the institution.
College Principal E Kharkongor exhorted the youth to actively take part in the vote as citizens of the country and understand the value that their opinion brings to the decision making process.
This was followed by a talk from the resource person, Sadon K Blah, a pressure group leader, social activist and assistant professor at Seng Khasi College. He highlighted the constitutional and ethical aspect of voting and stressed on the importance of choosing rationally and wisely and cautioned the students not to be influenced by money power, other influences or rhetoric and “unfulfilled promises”.
This was followed by an interactive session. Others who spoke today included VR Solomon, the head of the Department of Political Science, and Assistant Professor A Marbaniang.
