A FIR was lodged against NPP general secretary of Williamnagar Georgeman Marak and other members for allegedly distorting a Christian devotion song in a viral video.
The police complaint was lodged at Tura Police Station by member of the Baptist Church, John Leslee K. Sangma stating that the NPP workers has hurt the sentiments of the Christians by “degrading and distorting” the Christian devotional song.
Sangma said the song has a powerful testimony for all Christian about faith and Christianity. He said, “The persons have made a video where they have distorted the words by replacing the name of our Lord Jesus with NPP and Conrad Sangma in order to glorify their party, which is an action insulting and showing contempt for our faith and religion and is an open provocation to all the Christians.”
The complainant stated that the video is likely to create enmity and law and order situation, which is punishable under section 295A of the IPC.
