The road is clear for VPP MDC of Lyngkyrdem Laitkroh Shemborlang Rynjah to lead the new Executive Committee in the KHADC as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) as no one from the opposition filed nominations for the post.
Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah member Strong Pillar Kharjana is also poised to be the Chairman.
Rynjah and Kharjana together filed their nomination papers for the CEM and Chairman posts after taking oath as new members of the KHADC today.
The scrutiny of the nomination papers was also held in the office chamber of the KHADC Legislative Wing.
The formal election proceedings will be held on Friday. The election for the posts of Chairman will be conducted by the Deputy Commissioner at 11 am and members will gather at 2 pm to elect the CEM.
The VPP will form the new executive committee with seven members led by Rynjah.
The proposed Executive Members are Powell Sohkhlet (Pariong-Mawthadraishan), Seiborlang Warbah (Mawkynrew) Isnei Hinge (Umroi) Pynkhraw Kharjahrin(Mawkyrwat) Aibandaplin Lyngdoh Nonglait(Mylliem), Deity Majaw (Laitumkhrah) and Winston Tony Lyngdoh( Nongthymmai).
The VPP wanted Mawhati MDC, Kynjohlang Rangtong for the post of Deputy Chairman.
While the NPP had selected Thombor Shiwat to lead the EC in the JHADC as CEM, Congress MDC of Awwi Khliehtyrshi, Madonbai Rymbai has also filed his nomination for the post.
The JHADC also received two nominations for the post of Chairman filed by Rikut Parein (Saphai-Sahsniang) of the Congress and Sankey Shangpung (Bataw-Lakadong) of the NPP.
Meanwhile, fifty eight new members of the Khasi and Jaintia Hills autonomous district councils were sworn-in today by the respective Deputy Commissioners of East Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills districts.
In the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), out of the 29 MDCs, 17 of the Voice of the People Party (VPP) are new to the elected House, including two women members Deiti Majaw and Aibandaplin Lyngdoh Nonglait.
Three sitting MLAs Synshar Roy Kupar Lyngdoh and Pius Marwein of UDP, and Sosthenes Sohtun (Jirang) of NPP were also sworn into KHADC.
Titosstarwell Chyne, the UDP MDC from Sohra, took his oath in Khasi, while the remaining members took theirs in English.
The KHADC is made up of 17 VPP MDCs, UDP (5), NPP (4), HSPDP (1) and two independents.
In JHADC, Chief Executive Member Thombor Shiwat took the oath alongside 29 other members, including four former Chief Executive Members: Hambertus Nongtdu, Madonbai Rymbai, Andrew Shullai, and Moonlight Pariat.
The party-wise composition in JHADC consists of NPP (14), VPP (8), UDP (3), Congress (3) and one independent.
