United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Jemino Mawthoh claimed today that many leaders and sitting MLAs will join the party ahead of next year’s state election.
“This is not speculation but a fact that many will be joining the UDP,” he told Highland Post.
Recent political developments have seen the disintegration of the Congress, among other things, Mawthoh opined. Congress MLAs, especially, have quit en masse, with many gravitating, if not yet formally joining, the UDP. There are also “cracks” in the Trinamool Congress and even some of these legislators are sounding out the UDP about a potential move.
Altogether, the biggest regional party in the state is confident with less than a year to go before the polls.
“I won’t spell out the names now but we hope that the UDP will do much better in the 2023 general election and it will be a major player,” he said.
