Akashvani Shillong, in collaboration with Myngken Christian Higher Secondary School, Bhoirymbong, organised a seminar titled “Sustainable Development and Youth,” accompanied by an open quiz at the school today.
Students from Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Mawbri, and Umroi Presbyterian Higher Secondary School also participated in the event.
Principal of Myngken Christian HSS, Everlasting Pyngrope, emphasised the importance of adopting sustainable development practices. Students from the school showcased their commitment to the theme by performing a group song focused on sustainability.
The technical session, chaired by R. Kharlukhi, featured several notable presentations. Aiborlang Wanswett, Senior Director (IT) and Scientist F at the National Informatics Centre, Meghalaya, discussed “Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,” highlighting the relevance of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the potential of digital tools for young people.
Alvareen Mary Shangpliang, District Coordinator of DSBMG, Ri Bhoi District, focused on “Sanitation as a Sustainable Lifestyle,” urging a change in mindset and behaviour regarding sanitation while advocating for a reduction in plastic usage.
Dr. Hehlangki Tyngkan, Aspirational Block Fellow of Umling C&RD Block, presented on “Sustainable Agriculture: Ensuring a Better Future.”
Each presentation was followed by an engaging session, encouraging interaction among participants. Additionally, the open quiz related to the topics presented provided attendees with the opportunity to win prizes. The seminar concluded with the presentation of mementoes to the participating schools.
