A web application, ‘Scoopcut’ was today launched by ProVibes recording studio in Shillong to promote independent film makers in North East India.
ProVibes proprietor, Banshemphang Tham informed that the web is a pay per view movie rental service with a 24hour viewing window. “Through Scoopcut a viewer can rent films and they can enjoy watching local productions from the comfort of home,” Tham said, adding, “The best thing about a streaming platform is its mobility. We can watch on smart phones.”
Lamenting that only one film theatre in the State showcases Khasi films, Tham said that the web application will now be a platform for local films and will be able to provide a wider audience. “Now students studying outside the state and locals working in other parts of the country can enjoy these local films,” he said.
Urging film producers to contact ProVibes to showcase their films on Scoopcut, Tham said filmmakers can also experiment with content to target different audiences.
He informed that film series of 30 to 40 minutes per episode can also be considered with the launch of the application and hoped that Scoopcut will help raise the standard of quality film making in the state, create employment opportunities for media students, actors, script writers, etc.
At present, Scoopcut is showcasing a Khasi film, ‘U Paila’ by JP Mawa production at Rs 150 where viewers can watch it within 24 hours as many time as they like, Tham said.
