The corporate social responsibility arm of Indus Towers Ltd, in association with non-profit organisation Shishu Sarothi, has announced that scholarships for North East students with disabilities are available for 2024-25.
The scholarship program will provide financial support to 70 students from Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram to pursue certificate and diploma courses in Administrative, Accounting & Office Skills, Beauty & Cosmetology, Hospitality and Tourism, Tailoring & Weaving, Electrical & Mechanical, Agriculture & Farming, Computer & Digital Skills, Music & Fine Arts, Cooking & Baking, Retail & Sales, Sports, etc.
Career counselling sessions and awareness programs on Rights for Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 will be conducted for scholars to motivate and inspire them in their educational pursuits and journey toward economic empowerment.
The scholarship programme will focus on equipping and empowering youth with disabilities from Northeast to achieve economic independence, by providing scholarships for relevant, practical, market-oriented, and in-demand vocational and skill training that facilitates their access to sustainable livelihoods jobs and self-employment opportunities.

The scholarship programme was launched in 2016 with the objective of encouraging and supporting students with disability and has since supported 800 students with disabilities to overcome financial barriers and advance in their academic journeys, by encouraging them to pursue academic, professional, vocational, and skill-building education (including coaching for employment-oriented competitive examinations) at any recognized or affiliated educational institution across the country.
