Police have arrested an employee in the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Pynursla on suspicion of stealing money so as to enable him to feed his online gambling addiction.
On February 17, the branch manager filed an FIR with police regarding theft of Rs 95 lakh on February 13.
Preliminary investigations by police led to the suspect (who was not named in the police press release), with help from his own family members and bank officials, to be traced and apprehended on Sunday.
Further investigations are underway to ascertain his modus operandi and the whereabouts of the cash he has stolen.
According to preliminary findings, a colleague had entrusted certain “password components” to him, which is against the bank’s norms, and he misused them over a period of several months to steal money in order to bet online.
