The Meghalaya government has informed that the proposal for a salary hike for SSA non-teaching staff is currently with the Finance Department, which will make a decision based on the financial strength of the state.
A 15-day deadline set by the All Meghalaya SSA Non-Teaching Staff Association for a hike in salary ends tomorrow.
Representatives of the association met with Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma today.
According to the minister, discussions with the association were productive and the department has already proposed the salary hike. The file is currently with the Finance Department and the process is ongoing.
Sangma also mentioned that the Chief Minister is aware of the situation and assured that the necessary steps will be taken. Asked about the percentage of the proposed hike, he stated that it will be determined based on the financial strength of the state.
He appealed to the association to refrain from agitation as the government is trying to address the issue.
There are approximately 1,200 SSA non-teaching staff across Meghalaya and the last salary enhancement occurred in 2016. Previous discussions between the All Meghalaya SSA Non-Teaching Staff Association and the Education Department had failed, prompting the association to announce their agitation program.
