Rural marketing haat at Namdong-B village under West Jaiñtia Hills district was inaugurated today.
The rural marketing haat was built with the support of NABARD with support from the Jaiñtia Hills Development Society (JHDS), an organisation working in the district.
Rural Haats serve as primary markets in rural areas and play an essential role in the rural economy by providing business opportunities and promoting rural-to-rural trade.
NABARD through its Off Farm Development Department supports rural haats by creating modern day infrastructure by collaborating with local agencies for facilitating producers to sell surplus agricultural and related items at these marketplaces and help local consumers to purchase consumer goods in their vicinity.
NABARD, Shillong General Manager JR Blah during her speech, expressed gratitude to all those who supported the initiative and urged the people including shopkeepers to keep the market clean.
The programme was attended by Mynsngat-Khanduli MDC Dawan Lyngdoh, Namdong BDO Dr. H Niang, NABARD Jaintia Hills AGM SN Lamare, JHDS Director Fr. Manbah Paken, waheh shnong DS War and others.
