The group called A’chik Progressive Approach (APA) has raised a shocking safety norm breach where students are riding to school on the tops of buses due to apparent inadequate seating capacity, posting a huge risk to their safety.
APA’s Rome Agalgre regional unit wrote to state education authorities and schools over this issue and emailed an accompanying photo to the media.
“The uniform of these young students signifies their vulnerability, yet they are compelled to travel on rooftops, exposing them to danger,” APA said. “This situation highlights the scarcity of transportation facilities in our area and the lack of responsibility from the Meghalaya Transport Department, school authorities and bus owners.”
The group wants increased bus services for students, strict enforcement of safety regulations and accountability from bus owners and drivers.
