Preparations are well underway for the 5th Meghalaya Games, which will take place for the first time in Tura next month.
This was informed by Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Shakliar Warjri today.
The Games will run from January 15 to 20, bringing together almost 3,300 athletes and officials across nearly 20 disciplines.
Despite the mega budget, no new construction was carried out specifically for the event, though new infrastructure was being built anyway and renovation of existing facilities was and is being carried out.
These are the first Meghalaya Games that will take place under Warjri’s charge after he became the new Sports & Youth Affairs Minister earlier this year.
His department is also looking to promote traditional games to promote indigenous culture through sport.
“I want to assure you that it will be a successful Games and you will see the outcome after. I have made several visits to see that there is no shortcoming, so I’m confident,” the minister said.
