Funds amounting to Rs 16 crore have been allocated by the Central government for Meghalaya under the MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) Scheme during the last three years.
Processing of proposals for release of funds under MPLAD Scheme by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, is a continuous process and is subject to fulfillment of fund-related criteria and submission of fund-related documents by the district authorities as laid down in extant MPLADS Guidelines.
The funds allocated by the Central government to Meghalaya under MPLAD Scheme in 2020-21was Rs 7.5 crore. In 2021-22, the allocation was Rs 4 crore. For 2022-23, the allocated amount was Rs 4.5 crore.
However, during the financial year 2020-21 and 2021-22, the MPLAD Scheme was non-functional for the period from April 8, 2020 to November 9, 2021 and MPLADS funds for all states in the country to the tune of Rs 6320 crore were placed at the disposal of the Ministry of Finance for managing the health and adverse impacts of Covid-19 on the society.
However, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation did receive funds from the Ministry of Finance in March 2021 and again in June 2021 for release of pending installments of previous years.
