The Meghalaya government has distributed Rs 12.9 crore as scholarships under the Post Matric Umbrella Scheme of Scholarship at an enhanced rate for May 2019-2020.
The enhanced rate was distributed to 6286 out of the total verified application of 7181 beneficiaries.
Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Monday informed that the Education Department has approved the recommendation made by the Fee Fixation Committee.
“The long overdue revision was taken last year and benefits the poor and needy students of the State,” Rymbui tweeted.
He said that that payment for the remaining 895 beneficiaries is in process.
As per the enhanced rate, under Group I (Ph.D, M Phil, MBBS, B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA etc), 361 students will receive the scholarship ranging between Rs 40, 500 (day scholars) to Rs 47,000 (hostellers).
For Post-Graduate courses, including LLM etc, the amount approved is at Rs 30, 300 for day scholars and Rs 33, 200 for hostellers. Under this category, 1931 students will receive the scholarship.
Under Group III that includes Under-Graduate courses, 3374 students will receive the scholarship ranging between Rs 23,000 for day scholars to Rs 25, 700 for hostellers.
For Diploma courses, Class XI, Class XII etc falling under Group IV, the approval was made at Rs 17,300 for day scholars and Rs 18,800 for hostellers and 1515 students will receive the scholarship.
