Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong organised a tree plantation drive under its tree plantation initiative, ‘Project Hariyali’ at Nongumlong village in Upper Shillong today.
The project is a green movement to strengthen the lungs of the planted which started on September 7. Under it several plantation drives were conducted by the rotary wherein fruit-bearing tree saplings were planted at Wahkhen village, Kydemkulai and Rilong Umran Farm in Ri Bhoi district and others.
Cabinet minister Hamletson Dohling, who graced the event as the chief guest said that green is the future and stressed on taking care of the plants after plantation. He said that school students should tag a tree with their name and take care of it and see it grow and fruit as they will grow in their lives.
Archbishop of Shillong, Most Rev. Victor Lyngdoh, joined the green movement and planted a tree sapling on the occasion.
Headman of the Nongumlong, Iarap Nongruid, president of the Club, Rtn Monica Chanda and project chair-Hariyali Rtn Vivek Kumar amongst other were present on the occasion.
The event concluded with a message,” Plant a tree, and plant green hope for future”.
