The East Khasi Hills Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) arrested a rider who allegedly tossed 1.95 grams of heroin during checking of two-wheelers at Saw Lad junction, police said today.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said the rider identified as Nimu Chyrmang of Lad Rymbai was stopped by the Madanrting traffic personnel as he was not wearing a helmet.
Chyrmang, who was riding a scooty bearing registration number ML 05 Y 7653, tried to flee by throwing a plastic bag from his jacket but was caught by the traffic personnel.
On checking the plastic packet, 109 small size vials containing suspected heroin were found, Syiem said.
The ANTF was called for taking necessary action.
A case has been registered at Madanriting Police Station under sections 21(a)/27(a) of the NDPS Act.
