Shillong, Apr 29: In response to a concerning increase in traffic violations, the Ri Bhoi police have commenced road inspections once again.
Last night, the team resumed inspection at Byrnihat checking drunk driving and helmetless riding. The inspection was necessary after several months of inactivity in vehicle checking.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Bankerlang Marwein led the inspection alongside Byrnihat OC Rubul Ali and Nongpoh OC Michael Marak. Members of the Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) also participated in the operation, providing support to the police.
During the inspection, officers encountered numerous violations. Some individuals were found driving while holding alcohol, and many rode without helmets.
Officials noted that violations had increased after the earlier suspension of such drives.
Currently, the operation aims to warn motorists about infractions before stricter measures, including fines, are enforced. The police hope that these reminders will lead to greater adherence to traffic regulations in the future.
