Following last week’s incident at Mukroh village, where six people were shot dead by Assam police, the general public of Ri-Bhoi are now facing a shortage of cooking gas.
A consequence of the shooting was a rise in tension between the two states and the stoppage of Assam vehicles coming to Meghalaya, which relies on supply of LPG and other fuels from Assam.
Although the Meghalaya government guaranteed the safety of fuel suppliers and traffic resumed on Sunday, there is still a shortfall in LPG cylinder stock.
Representatives of Ri Bhoi Gas Agency confirmed to this reporter that there is a shortage in the district and in the rest of Khasi-Jaiñtia Hills as well.
With the situation returning to normal, it is hoped that supply of cylinders will catch up with demand in the next few days.
