Nongpoh, Apr 30: Police in Ri-Bhoi have registered a case after a newborn was rescued from being buried alive in Mawhati on April 27.
School children pulled the baby out of loose mud and the infant was taken to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for treatment.
A case has been registered at Nongpoh Women Police Station and the authorities are investigating.
Ri-Bhoi Police expressed sincere appreciation and gratitude to the students and members of the public whose timely intervention helped rescue the newborn.
However, Superintendent of Police Giri Prasad issued a public advisory urging against the sharing, forwarding or publishing of videos or photographs related to the incident. A viral clip of the rescue has gone viral on social media.
Prasad said that revealing the identity of the child is strictly prohibited under the law and constitutes a serious criminal offence.
