Following the recent departure of Ri-Bhoi District Congress Committee (RBDCC) president and Mawhati MLA Charles Marngar along with Umsning MLA Dr Celestine Lyngdoh, who both joined the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), the RBDCC convened a meeting today in Saiden where new office bearers were elected.
With the departure of Marngar and Lyngdoh, the Congress Party now has no representation in the Assembly from Ri-Bhoi.
The newly-elected office bearers of the RBDCC included president MG Kharshanlor, working president GS Shadap, senior adviser Stanlywiss Rymbai, adviser Adrian Chyne Mylliemngap, vice-presidents Rocky Marwein, Phrang Syngkli, Rev PW Pnar, Shalwist Mallai and general secretary Defender S Lamare.
Kharshanlor assured that despite the recent defections, the Congress remains strong and committed to serving the people of the district. He emphasised that the party’s new leadership is dedicated to maintaining the party’s presence and effectiveness in Ri-Bhoi.
Rymbai and Shadap called on party workers and supporters to remain united and hopeful.
They also indicated that the electorate, who had previously supported the Congress by electing two MLAs from the district, will likely respond to the recent defections and reaffirm their commitment to the party.
