Five highway robbers were apprehended by members of the public during an attempt to steal from a parked truck at Umnget in Ri-Bhoi.
The truck had been parked on the side of the road and the driver was able to escape and raised the alarm, prompting locals to chase after the robbers, who were apprehended at Quinine on National Highway 6.
The five suspects were assaulted by the public, some seriously. Police from Nongpoh rushed to the scene and took the five into custody. Their names have yet to be released.
The truck (AS 01GC 3086) was being driven by one Tuta Dey (28) from Tripura, who narrated that the highwaymen robbed him while he was cooking on the roadside where the truck is parked.
