Ri Bhoi College celebrated its 40th Foundation Day today and paid tributes to the founding Principal R. I. Masharing.
The college was established in 1984 and has since been a beacon of education for the community in the district, catering to the poorest of the poor.
Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem attended the programme as the guest in the presence of the college Principal, EC Benny, family members of the founding member, teachers, students, and members of the Ri Bhoi College Students’ Union (RBCSU).
Syiem emphasised the importance of recognising the contributions of Masharing, who faced numerous challenges and criticisms during the establishment of the college. He urged students to take an active role in social activities while excelling in their studies.
He also pledged his support to further develop Ri Bhoi College, particularly in terms of infrastructure and overall growth.
In his address, Benny commended the RBCSU for organising the event and praised the vision of the college’s founding members. He highlighted the contributions made by Masharing, whose leadership and dedication laid the foundation for the institution’s success. “The sacrifices of our founding members are the very reason we stand strong today,” he said, and expressed gratitude for their efforts in building the college.
