The Chief Electoral Officer of Meghalaya in collaboration with the office of the District Election Officer of East Khasi Hills today organised the state level function for the launch of special summary revision of photo electoral rolls with reference to January 1, 2023 as the qualifying date and draft publication of photo electoral rolls.
Speaking at the programme, the CEO, FR Kharkongor, said that the main aim of the special summary revision is to have 100 percent enrolment of eligible voters and voting of genuine citizens and also to achieve the PHITT (purification, healthy electoral rolls, inclusiveness, transparency and tech enabled) enrolment and voting from roll to poll and Mission UNITE (U & I Towards Enrolment).
In her address, Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo stated that since the state is approaching an election, the special summary revision for the publication of the draft electoral roll and the final publication of the electoral roll that will be published in early January 2023 is a crucial exercise to purify, streamline and ensure that the electoral rolls are healthy. A healthy electoral roll determines the foundation of a smooth election and a healthy democracy, she added.
The CEO along with the DC distributed kits to various Booth Level Officers of the district and also distributed the draft publication of E/Roll CDs to recognised political parties.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Registration Officers have published the draft electoral rolls, copies of which are available for inspection at their respective offices up to December 8, 2022. The qualifying date for the preparation of the electoral roll is January 1, 2023.
If, with reference to the above said qualifying date, there be any claim for the inclusion of a name in the Roll or any objection to the inclusion of name or any objection to particulars in any entry, it should be lodge on or before December 8 through Form 6, 6A, 7, 8 as may be appropriate.
An eligible citizen, who is going to attain the age of 18 on any of the subsequent qualifying dates in the year 2023, that is to say on April 1, July 1 or October 1, 2023, may also file his or her claim for inclusion of his or her name in the roll, in Form-6 in advance, starting from date of notice, and the same shall be considered and decided in the respective quarter of the year with reference to the respective qualifying date.
