Vehicles bringing tourists and others continued to face restrictions in crossing from Assam into Meghalaya following the Mukroh firing incident yesterday.
Police from both states have heightened their activity along the border of Assam and Meghalaya in Ri-Bhoi district to forestall any untoward incident. Vehicles coming from Assam, especially those bearing Assam licence plates, have been warned and even prevented by police from entering Meghalaya since yesterday, to the distress of the travellers and taxi drivers.
Passengers coming from Assam disembarked in Jorabat, just inside the Meghalaya border. Aggrieved taxi drivers said that they would have no option but to hike fares if the situation persists.
