The banned HNLC has said that solving the boundary dispute with Assam is among its core issues even as it also said that it would not accept any kind of injustice on people.
Condemning the Assam police firing at Mukroh village in West Jaiñtia Hills which resulted in the death of five villagers, the HNLC termed the incident as “cold blooded massacre”.
“This is not the first time that Assam is attacking and killing our people. The reason is because Meghalaya government is weak. In places where the Central government is not keen to solve the border problem, the Meghalaya government should have done its own job. If it has a shortage of police force, it should have resorted to conscription so that there is peace and security in the border,” the HNLC said.
The underground outfit also said that the claim by Assam that Mukroh falls under West Karbi Anglong is a clear signal that the firing at Mukroh was premeditated so that local villagers will get intimidated and decide to be part of Assam.
Expressing concern that the boundary dispute has remained unresolved and causing bloodshed not only in Meghalaya but in other North East states, the HNLC said, “Perhaps this may be a political game by the Centre to weaken and divide the states of North East.”
The HNLC also expressed hope that the ongoing peace talks with the government will be a success in order to resolve all contentious issues of the people.
“If the talk process reaches nowhere, our armed struggle will continue even if it takes another 35 years. If peace means that we have to keep quiet to any situation and injustice then we are not for it,” it added.
