The recent resignation of the Congress’ Mawkynrew Block President will not negatively affect the party, Mawsynram MLA Himalaya Shangpliang said today.
Olet Kharsahnoh, who is also the headman of Jongksha, said that he had resigned from the Congress because he wants to concentrate on development of the village.
“Kharsahnoh resigned from the Congress on personal grounds and this does not affect the Congress in Mawkynrew at all because the MPCC (Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee) immediately nominated Kansing Lyngshiang as the new President,” Shangpliang told Highland Post.
According to him, the party in Mawkynrew block is “very united.”
“We are hopeful that Lyngshiang will improve and expand the block Congress in Mawkynrew even better and come up with a formidable team that will ensure victory to the party in 2023 elections,” he added.
In the 2018 election the Mawkynrew Assembly seat was won by Banteidor Lyngdoh of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF).
“Maybe it’s my fault that the Congress did not win in Mawkynrew, so I think it is better to give someone else a chance to try,” Kharsahnoh said.
When asked about him joining PDF, he said that he will first have to discuss that matter with his supporters.
