A complaint has been raised by a resident of the plains belt of West Garo Hills after four men were posted at the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) forest check gate in Phulbari allegedly without authorisation.
The complaint, sent to the Chief Forest Officer and the GHADC Secretary on March 5, highlighted the case which has come in the time when the GHADC has been struggling with paying its staff, who have pending dues of over 30 months.
“These persons have been illegally appointed, we believe, as muster roll workers without any sort of advertisement. When there have never been muster roll employment in the Forest Department, how can these people be appointed? This is definitely illegal,” said the complainant, PR Sangma.
Sangma named the four as Raziul Islam (of Old Bhaitbari), Mokbul Hussain (the Village Employment Council Secretary of Shialkandi), Eyazul Islam (of Shialkandi) and Rezaul Rehman (of Rajpur).
The complainant maintained that proper procedures for appointment needed to be followed before anyone was posted in the department’s check gates.
“I request that an investigation into the matter be made and all those responsible for this illegal act of appointment be taken to task,” implored Sangma.
