The ongoing repair of the Umiam dam bridge will take around three to four months.
This was informed by Power Minister Abu Taher Monday to media persons here today.
Mondal also said that consultation with the coordination committee comprising of various line departments is being held to finalise on the total closure of the bridge in order to lift a part of the bridge for repair works.
“We have asked the company that is executing the repair work to give a tentative date for the lifting of a part of the bridge. We also have a coordination committee consisting of MeECL, transport department, district administration of both the district and also the police. We will jointly take a call on the lifting,” Mondal said.
Pointing out that currently only small vehicles are allowed to move on the bridge, the power minister said, “On the day the bridge is lifted, we will go for a complete closure of traffic for four hours.”
“We will put ramps on both sides of the bridge to allow the small vehicles to pass, not exceeding the gross weight of the vehicle which is four metric tons,” he added.
“Similarly on the day we lower the bridge after replacing the bearings, for four hours no vehicles will be allowed to pass through the dam,” he said.
