The Thma u Rangli Juki (TUR) has strongly condemned the murder of the 16-year-old schoolgirl of Pamrakmai, East Jaiñtia Hills, last week.
The student was found murdered in Ar Kilo on March 13. Her murder follows in the wake of a similar crime in December, which was committed in nearby Sohkymphor village.
“Increasing crimes against women and minors in many parts of the state points to a serious breakdown in the overall law and order situation in the state,” TUR in a statement here said.
The impunity which is enjoyed by criminals of various shades creates conditions under which citizens especially women and children are easily targeted, TUR said.
Blaming negligence on the part of government and administration to stop crimes, TUR also called for speedy investigation and convictions and revamping of the criminal justice system.
Meanwhile, the All Jaiñtia Youth Welfare Organisation (AJYWO), East Jaiñtia unit and the Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) too have condemned.
Heatermoon Ryngkhlem, President of the AJYWO unit, said that such gruesome incidents have affected the sentiments of all young schoolgirls and their parents.
“If such gruesome incidents keep on happening then where will the sense of security and future of young girls be?” he asked.
The organisations have urged the police to make extra efforts to nab the culprit/s immediately and see that they are given severe punishment.
