The Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) which comprises UDP and HSPDP will hold a meeting on January 23 to officially introduce Robertjune Kharjahrin as the candidate of the alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Shillong seat.
The meeting which will be held at the UDP office at Bomfyle Road, Laitumkhrah here will be attended by presidents of UDP and HSPDP, legislators and MDCs of the two parties and their party functionaries from all 36 constituencies under Shillong parliamentary seat.
“At the meeting, we will also launch the election campaign for the Lok Sabha election,” said RDA assistant secretary Titos Chyne.
It may be recalled that RDA officially announced Kharjahrin as their joint candidate at a meeting of the two parties held on December 19.
Kharjahrin, who was earlier the president of Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), recently joined the UDP during a meeting in Mawkyrwat. He will contest the polls on the UDP symbol.
Besides Kharjahrin, the other candidates in the fray so far include cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh of NPP and Dr. Ricky A J Syngkon of the VPP.
The Congress is yet to announce its candidate although sitting MP, Vincent Pala is likely to be renominated. Similarly, the BJP has not yet named its candidate although Fenella Lyngdoh Nonglait has recently announced that she has applied for the party ticket.
