Murder accused Sonam Raghuvanshi and her ‘lover’ Raj Kushwaha have been remanded to 13 days of judicial custody.
Both the accused were produced at the district session court in Shillong before the Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Don Kitbor Koshy Mihsill on Saturday after spending 10 days in police custody.
According to Assistant Public Prosecutor Tushar Chand, police did not ask for the custody of Sonam and Raj, but the Investigating Officer pleaded for the judicial custody, which the court granted.
It may be mentioned that Sonam and Raj were earlier given two additional days of police custody on June 19. Three other accused connected to the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi—Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan and Anand Kurmi—were sent to judicial custody after being quizzed by police for eight days.
Sonam and Raja had ostensibly come to Meghalaya for their honeymoon after getting married on May 11.
Sonam, her alleged boyfriend Raj and the three are accused of murdering Raja on May 23 at Weisawdong in the Sohra area of East Khasi Hills. His decomposed body was found in a gorge on June 2.
The woman was arrested from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, while her aides were apprehended from Indore in Madhya Pradesh.
Raj who did not travel to Meghalaya is alleged to have coordinated aspects of the crime.
