In line with the central government’s Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme, which aims to enhance interaction and promote mutual understanding between peoples of different states and Union territories, the foundation day of Jammu and Kashmir and ladakh was celebrated today at Raj Bhavan here.
To mark the occasion, a cultural evening was held with Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chauhan present as the chief guest.
The celebration also coincided with Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, or National Unity Day, which marks the birth anniversary of Vallabhbhai Patel.
On this occasion, the Governor administered the National Unity Day pledge to foster and fortify the unity, integrity and security of our nation.
The cultural evening witnessed a splendid array of performances showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of the two Union Territories. A special troupe of performers from Ladakh wowed the audience with their impeccable musical prowess.
The foundation day message of Lt Governor of Ladakh, Brig (retd) BD Mishra, who was previously the Meghalaya Governor, was also screened on the day.
Earlier, in his welcome address, BDR Tiwari, Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, recounted the valuable contributions of Patel in promoting national integration, which earned him the title of the ‘Iron Man of India’. Further, he also hailed the scenic beauty of the two Union territories and appreciated their deep-rooted customs and traditions.
The programme was organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations Shillong in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture.
