The United Democratic Party (UDP) has proposed eight suggestions to the expert committee for review of the job reservation policy.
However, the party does not wish to reveal the key points but said the proposals are “rational” and be made known in time.
“We have listed eight observations and it is not so simple. We have made balanced suggestions by respecting our Garo brothers as we are in the same state and we would like to look at the reservation policy objectively,” UDP General Secretary Jemino Mawthoh said.
He said the suggestions made are non-discriminatory to any community. “We want the policy to be addressed in a proper way so that it will help to arrive at a formula to stimulate further discussions pending the annotations of the expert committee,” he added.
Mawthoh said the UDP was the first to submit its views on the reservation and roster system in July 2023 to chairperson of the all party committee on reservation and roster, Ampareen Lyngdoh.
It may be mentioned that during that time too, the UDP did not reveal its suggestions but said the party is for change in the current reservation policy and not for status quo.
