The National People’s Party (NPP) on Saturday night held an internal meeting to assess the defeat of its candidates in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
The meeting was held at the official residence of Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma.
Apart from the MLAs, other party functionaries including chief adviser, and veteran leader DD Lapang and Rajya Sabha MP, Wanwei Roy Kharlukhi attended the meeting, sources informed.
According to party sources, the meeting discussed what caused the defeat of their candidates which included NPP’s sitting Member of Parliament (MP) from Tura Agatha Sangma.
The NPP leadership also emphasised on the need to strengthen the party units in every constituency, so that they can be means of communication between the government and the citizens.
The party is also scouting for a strong candidate for the Gambegre bypoll, which was vacant after sitting Congress MLA Saleng Sangma recently quit since being elected to the Lok Sabha.
