The district and sub-divisional administrations should always put the public first in every decision taken at an official level, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said.
He was addressing a conference for Deputy Commissioners and Sub-Divisional Officers here yesterday. Also present were cabinet minister Kyrmen Shylla and Chief Secretary Donald P Wahlang.
The conference aimed to inform officers about various interventions being undertaken to advance the development agenda through data-driven governance.
Speaking on the occasion, Sangma urged officers at the state, district, and sub-division levels to work in coordination to ensure the effective implementation of programs and schemes. He emphasised the importance of putting people first in every decision, which should further the growth and development of Meghalaya.
“The conference is very crucial as the feedback we receive from DCs and SDOs is important for the public at large,” the CM said.
He also spoke about the state’s vision to achieve a $10 billion economy and the need for every stakeholder to work in synergy to achieve this target. However, the goal is not just driven by this GDP figure but also to have this growth connected to social and infrastructural targets, he added.
He informed that different indicators of growth and development have improved significantly in the past six years. “We have been able to do better in various central and state schemes because efficiency in executing and implementing these schemes has improved through proper coordination, monitoring, shared commitment and accountability,” Sangma said.
The Chief Minister urged the DCs and SDOs to conduct regular visits and inspections of schools, hospitals, health centres, etc and report to the government through different technology-enabled services. This will allow policymakers to make informed decisions.
“Reformation is one of our top agendas. We want to reform the delivery of services to the people,” he said.
